Original Ideas Matter – A Message From StickEtch

Original Ideas Matter – A Message From StickEtch

Running a small business isn't just about selling products. It's about the countless hours spent developing ideas, testing new concepts, investing in equipment, building systems and trying to create something genuinely different for customers.

At StickEtch, we've always been proud to do things our own way.

Over the last few years, we've worked hard to grow from a small sticker business into something much bigger — introducing new materials and finishes, custom garments, improved ordering systems and, most recently, developing tools designed to make ordering custom stickers easier than ever.

When Sharing Knowledge Comes Back to Bite You

One of the great things about the small-business community should be the ability to talk, share experiences and help each other.

Unfortunately, sometimes that trust isn't respected.

We've recently had an experience where information about what we were developing and how we were approaching certain ideas was shared in what we believed was a genuine conversation.

Not long afterwards, we noticed ideas appearing elsewhere that felt remarkably familiar.

Then came the block.

We're deliberately not naming anybody because this isn't about starting arguments or sending negativity towards another business.

It's about something much more important to us:

  • Respect for people's work and ideas.
  • You Can Copy an Idea. You Can't Copy the Journey.
  • Anyone can look at a website and try to recreate a feature.
  • Anyone can see a product and produce something similar.
  • Anyone can watch what another company is doing and take inspiration from it.
  • But what can't be copied is everything that happened behind the scenes.
  • The failed tests.
  • The late nights.
  • The wasted materials.
  • The coding that didn't work.
  • The equipment investments.
  • The customer feedback.

The changes, improvements and mistakes that eventually turned an idea into something that actually works.

That's where the real value is.

Why We're Talking About It

We're not writing this because we're scared of competition.

Competition is part of business, and there are plenty of fantastic sticker and printing companies across the UK doing their own thing.

Healthy competition can actually be a good thing. It pushes businesses to improve their quality, service and ideas.

What disappoints us is when genuine conversations and information shared in good faith appear to be used as a shortcut — particularly when communication suddenly disappears afterwards.

That's very different from two businesses independently having similar ideas.

StickEtch Will Keep Building

If anything, this experience has motivated us even more.

We're going to continue developing StickEtch, improving our website and creating tools that make ordering custom products easier.

Our sticker designer and cut-line tools are only part of what we're building.

There is much more coming.

And while somebody might be able to recreate something we've already released, they'll always be looking at where we've been.

  • We're focused on where we're going next.
  • A Small Lesson We've Learned
  • As a small business, you naturally want to help people.
  • We've shared advice, information and experiences because we remember what it was like trying to figure everything out ourselves.
  • That isn't going to change completely.
  • But we've learned that some ideas need to stay behind closed doors until they're ready.
  • Trust is important in business.
  • Once that trust disappears, it's incredibly difficult to rebuild.

Thank You for Supporting Original Small Businesses

Most importantly, thank you to everyone who continues to support StickEtch.

Every sticker order, garment order, recommendation, review, social media share and message helps us continue investing in new equipment, materials and technology.

  • We're still learning.
  • We're still experimenting.
  • And we're definitely still creating.

So if you've noticed other businesses introducing things that look a little familiar...

We'll simply take it as motivation to make the next version even better.

Keep watching. We're only getting started.
